Bristol looks for its next Young Environment Hero

By Francesca Boswell  Monday Feb 17, 2025

For the 12th year running, the Bristol Young Heroes awards is searching for the next Environmental and Sustainability Hero.

The awards recognise the valuable contribution that Bristol’s young people make to the city, with a particular focus on those who have overcome adversity.

Set up by social enterprise Community of Purpose, they aim to shine a light on the young people across Bristol who would not otherwise be recognised.

As well as honouring finalists at the ceremony itself, the awards are designed to build aspiration, generate pride, and open doors to work experience for the young nominees.

Nominations in eight categories are open to anyone aged between 11-19 living within a BS postcode. Alongside other categories like Creative Hero and Fundraising Hero, this year the awards are looking for their Environmental and Sustainability Hero.

The award recognises a young person who is contributing to or coordinating activity designed to have a positive impact on the environment locally, city wide or nationally.

Community of Purpose give examples of a young person caring for their local community’s environment or making a positive impact on an organisation’s approach to sustainability, but stress they welcome nominations for individuals making a difference large or small, with the intention of celebrating hard work of young people on any scale.

The criteria will focus on action, impact, innovation and long-term commitment. Scoring will focus on nominee’s environmental contributions and sustainable actions.

Watched by an audience of 6,000 online, the awards culminate in a special gala for the young people and their family and friends to enjoy.

“There has never been a more important time to recognise the hard work individuals are doing to help the environment and improve sustainability in Bristol,” the awards team says.

Nominations open January 20 and close March 28. Nominate a hero here.
