George’s marvellous medicine
Mayor George Ferguson launched his action plan for 2020 on Anchor Square in front of cheering supporters and a handful of hecklers.
“I want to help create a healthy city where we are proud to bring our children up in,” the mayor said to a round of applause on Saturday afternoon.
“This is about making the city which we’re proud to live in, one that is going to be really good for our children’s future. Because if we can make a city that’s good for children, we can make a city that’s good for all.”
Under the banner, “Let’s keep the momentum going”, mayor Ferguson laid out a seven-point action plan:
1. Skills and jobs for all
2. Homes for all
3. Culture and sport for all
4. A sustainable and healthy city for all
5. An independent and safer city for all
6. Efficient transport for all
7. A fairer caring city for all
The launch of the action plan came on the same day as John Savage, the former police and crime commissioner candidate for Labour and a lifelong party member, revealed that he is backing Ferguson’s bid for re-election as Bristol mayor.
