‘We sacrificed a great deal but never let go of our belief and our passion’

By Milan Perera  Tuesday Jun 25, 2024

The story began at a barn near Bristol Airport 30 years ago when Colin Vye and his business partner Mark Godfrey launched a business venture with a modest loan of £9,000 and a generous dose of chutzpah.

Marcol Fabrications has since blossomed into a thriving business with an annual turnover of £1.5m and 14 employees at its current home in Nailsea.

After being at the helm for three decades, it is time for founder Vye (pictured left) to sail into retirement at the age of 59 after recognising the need for strategic evolution and selling the company to new Glamorgan-based owners, Safety Critical Plastic Solutions Group.

“It’s the last leg of an amazing journey in business,” said Vye.

“When Mark and I started, we were like a lot of entrepreneurs – great at what we could do but winging it a bit on the business strategy and doing whatever we needed to do to survive.”

Marcol Fabrications specialises in high-quality thermoplastic fabrications, including chemical storage and process tanks, ductwork and pipework skids.

The company has of an array clients on their books including Rolls Royce, Wessex Water, Toyota and Tata.

Their impact extends across a broad range of industries in the South West and throughout the UK.

Vye, who lives in Portishead, has transitioned into retirement after being advised by accountant Tim Bowden at Haines Watts.

Reflecting on the journey, Vye shared: “We did lots of overtime, sacrificed a great deal, but never let go of our belief and our passion.”
