New initiative launched to ‘transform’ Bristol’s energy system

By Charlie Watts  Monday Apr 10, 2023

Bristol City Council has launched a new initiative to “transform” the city’s energy system.

Bristol City Leap, a joint venture between the council, Ameresco and Vattenfall Heat UK, will see more than £1bn invested into the city’s energy infrastructure over a 20-year period.

Officially launched on March 30, Bristol City Leap will run five free roadshow events to engage local communities about the “world first, game-changing” approach towards decarbonisation.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

James Sterling, communications and engagement manager for Bristol City Leap, said: “We can’t do this alone and we need your support to spread the word about this ambitious but essential project.

“Beyond funding for community energy projects, Bristol City Leap is providing support to improve energy efficiency for homes, businesses, and public buildings, in turn creating over 1,000 jobs in the next five years.

“We are at the start of a green revolution in Bristol and we’re counting on you to help shout about this transformational decarbonisation project.”

As part of Bristol City Leap, a Community Development Fund is being set up to support decarbonisation projects that meet the needs of Bristolians.

Bristol City Leap’s free roadshow events will take place in Lawrence Weston, St Paul’s, Lockleaze, Southmead and Hartcliffe.
