Impact investor wins national award for tackling homelessness
A Bristol-based impact investment firm has won a major national award for its efforts to tackle homelessness.
Resonance, founded in 2002, has received a Better Society Award in the category of ‘Partnership with a Local Charity’, recognising its collaboration with Developing Health & Independence (DHI), a social inclusion charity based in Bath.
The Better Society Awards, organised annually by the Better Society Network, celebrate commercial organisations that champion corporate social responsibility, sustainability and ethical business practices.
The ‘Partnership with a Local Charity’ category specifically recognises collaborations between businesses and charities that have had a far-reaching impact on their local communities.

Since launching its first property fund back in 2013, Resonance has helped provide homes for nearly 3,900 individuals and families across more than 1,200 properties in the UK
The two organisations have joined forces in response to Bristol’s ongoing housing crisis, where an estimated 3,000 people are currently living in temporary accommodation, a challenge mirrored across the country.
Through their joint venture, the organisations have provided homes and support for 270 adults and 253 children in the city.
Representatives from both organisations were present at a recent awards ceremony held in London to collect the accolade.
Daniel Brewer, chief executive of Resonance, said: “Our work with DHI is making a real difference to hundreds of people in Bristol and is something we really want to build on.
“There is still much to be done to tackle homelessness, and we are committed to working with our charity partners to provide sustainable solutions.”
Backed by social investment, Resonance purchases and refurbishes homes in local communities, close to essential amenities such as transport links, giving families and individuals the stability they need to rebuild their lives.

Rosie Phillips, chief executive of DHI, said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition with Resonance, as it is impossible to overstate the positive impact of social investment — especially when considering the lifelong difference it can make to a child.
“Having a place to call home enables people to put down roots, establish connections, and become stable enough to address other challenges they may be facing.”
