Female-founded firm unveils ‘next generation’ of event-friendly ladies’ urinals
According to the founders of women’s urinal startup, Peequal, women will spend nearly 10m hours queueing at festivals this summer – the equivalent of the lifespan of 14 people combined.
Co-founders Hazel McShane and Amber Probyn, said: “It’s time to end the Female Fun Tax.”
Peequal has unveiled its “next-generation” women’s urinals, described as its most sustainable and event-friendly design yet, at the TCS London Marathon on Sunday.
Developed following two years of research with users, janitors and industry partners, the new urinals feature faster assembly and minimal maintenance.

The flatpack design allows 56 units to be transported on a single lorry, compared to 20 traditional portaloos, helping to reduce carbon footprint.
They also require no water or chemicals and can be used three times faster than traditional portable toilets.
The redesign includes practical improvements such as an extra-grippy floor and patented splashback features, alongside better privacy and easier usability – aimed at making facilities more accessible for women at large events.

The sophisticated plumbing also makes the new-design urinals easier to set up and drain.
The launch follows a £925,000 investment and comes as demand grows, with Peequal urinals already used more than 1.25m times at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Download Festival and Shambala.
The company, launched by the University of Bristol alumni Probyn and McShane in 2020, is set to expand further, with installations planned at more than 40 events in 2026.
Peequal has already made its Boat Race debut in April.
Amber Probyn, said: “We’ve found the average woman queues for more than an hour every day at festivals. This Female Fun Tax simply should not exist in 2026.

“These women should be out enjoying the amazing events they paid to attend, not missing the headliner while they queue.
“Our next-generation urinals will get women out of queues and back to the events they love, all while making events more sustainable.”
