Dozens of Huboo staff made redundant

By Martin Booth  Monday Feb 27, 2023

Dozens of staff have been made redundant by a business that over the last few years has appeared to be a resounding success story.

Huboo is an “eCommerce fulfilment partner”, with its logo on the front of the shirts of Bristol City, Bristol Bears and Bristol Flyers after they became the principal partner for all five of Bristol Sports’ professional teams in 2022.

The company has seen rapid growth since being founded in 2017 by Martin Bysh and Paul Dodd.

Huboo has warehouses – known as “fulfilment centres” – in Emersons Green, Severn Beach, Bradley Stoke and Chippenham as well as further sites in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.

Their head office is on Corn Street and it is here that 60 staff have recently lost their jobs.

A spokesperson for Huboo said: “At the beginning of the year, Huboo made changes to its 800-strong workforce, which resulted in 60 UK head office redundancies.

“This was not a decision that we made lightly, and we provided support to all those affected.

“We are continuing to recruit across our warehouse operations and the successful realignment, which ensures our continued growth in 2023 and beyond, was a result of volatile stock markets and decreased consumer spending in the short-term.”

A source close to Huboo told Bristol24/7 that some of the head office staff made redundant had been working at the company for only a few months.

She said: “They let a bunch of sincerely talented people go. It was totally nonsensical and as far as I’m aware they did it pretty unpleasantly, too. Just out of the blue and quite cold about it.”
