Bristol tech startup Gapsquare snapped up by London company

By Charlie Watts  Monday Aug 9, 2021

A Bristol tech startup that has developed a software to eliminate the gender pay gap in companies has been acquired by London-based HR consultancy XpertHR.

Gapsquare was founded by Dr Zanu Nanu in 2017 after she heard the World Economic Forum’s forecast that it would take 217 years before the gender pay gap could be closed.

Based at the Engine Shed, the company has had clients including Vodafone, Condé Nast and Serco, analysing the wages of hundreds of thousands of employees.

XpertHR said that the acquisition of Gapsquare will allow them to help employers “build a world where work is inclusive, where pay meets value and diverse talent thrives.”

Scott Walker, managing director of XpertHR, said: “I am excited to bring Gapsquare into the XpertHR family. Our mission is a simple one: to create purposeful workplaces for every person in every organisation.

XpertHR also said it will keep the Gapsquare brand, with co-founders Dr Zara Nanu and Ion Suruceanu continuing to lead the business.

Dr Zanu Nanu, CEO and co-founder of Gapsquare, added: “We know for many businesses transparency around compensation fairness and pay reporting is high on the agenda.

“The workforce is changing and younger generations entering the workforce are increasingly interested in transparency, sustainability and equality.

“By joining forces, XpertHR and Gapsquare are better equipped to support our customers’ evolving needs and those of the businesses around the globe.”
