Activist and author to lead business conference on ‘low-carbon innovation’
City’s business and cultural leaders are expected to gather for a climate-focused leadership event exploring “resilience, sustainability and the future of low-carbon innovation”.
Hosted by Temwa, the event Future Forward will take place at Spike Island on Wednesday, bringing together business figures, innovators and changemakers to discuss leadership in the face of the climate and nature crisis.
The programme will feature climate briefings, interactive discussions and a keynote session led by acclaimed author Rob Hopkins, co-founder of Transition Network, focusing on imagination and systems change.

The event will include a keynote session led by acclaimed author Rob Hopkins, co-founder of Transition Network
Author of six books on the environment and activism, Hopkins’ ambitious scheme Transition Town Totnes was featured in the BBC programme Town with Nicholas Crane, where it was described as “the biggest urban brainwave of the century – a visionary, practical blueprint that took root in a town and is circling the globe”.
As well as being an environmental activist, Hopkins is also a business founder, having launched the craft brewery New Lion Brewery. He is expected to share insights on building successful businesses while remaining conscious of environmental impact.
Through a blend of talks and interactive experiences, attendees will be encouraged to rethink leadership, innovation and decision-making in a rapidly changing world.
The gathering will open with a briefing from leading climate scientists, offering an accessible overview of the climate and nature emergency.

The session will explore why limiting warming to between 1.5C and 2C remains achievable and what that means in practice for business strategy.
The event will be hosted by Richard Potter, chair of Temwa’s UK board and Microsoft’s director of digital strategy.
Profits from ticket sales will support Temwa’s community-led climate resilience projects in northern Malawi.
