London hotel serves edible Banksy
London’s ultra-luxury Rosewood Hotel, near to the British Museum and the Covent Garden, has started offering guests the chance to eat their way through some well-known modern art of the past 50 years, including Balloon Girl by Bristol’s very own Banksy.
The Art Afternoon Tea at Rosewood London includes finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, loose-leaf teas and the art-inspired pastries.
“As one of the most popular British street artist with an international reputation, Banksy was a fun choice to create a contemporary pastry design,” said executive pastry chef Mark Perkins, who describes “the alliance between chocolate and vanilla” as the “best reflection of this iconic piece”.
Balloon Girl was painted on a printing shop in east London in the early 2000s.
The artwork was covered with boarding for more than a decade to protect it, before being removed, restored and sold in 2014. A small version of the mural, sprayed onto cardboard, sold in 2012 for £73,000.
Other artists featured in the Art Afternoon Tea – which costs an eye-watering £45 per person – include Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst, Alexander Calder and Mark Rothko.
