Entebbe

Director
José Padilha
Certificate
12A
Running Time
107 mins

Older cinephiles may recall that the audacious 1976 counter-terrorist hostage rescue mission at Uganda’s Entebbe airport inspired two rival undistinguished quickie TV movies. Victory at Entebbe boasted a cast including Anthony Hopkins, Elizabeth Taylor, Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. This was swiftly followed by Raid on Entebbe, with Peter Finch (in his final screen role) as Yitzhak Rabin.

More than 40 years on, here’s – oh dear – another undistinguished film version of the same incident, which unfolded after a quartet of hijackers forced a plane to land at Entebbe, demanding the release of 53 Palestinians, most of whom were jailed in Israel. Narcos co-writer and Elite Squad director José Padilha is behind the camera, and the stars are Rosamund Pike and Daniel Bruhl. But word is that this version is just as mediocre as its predecessors
