This remake of Michael Winner’s controversial 1974 vigilante movie has been in the works for years, with everyone from Sylvester Stallone to (inevitably) Liam Neeson attached to star. What we actually get is Bruce Willis directed by Eli (Hostel) Roth from a script by Joe (The A-Team) Carnahan.

Brucie plays a caring trauma surgeon who gets real mad after his wife is killed and teenage daughter is left in a coma following a home invasion. Naturally, he picks up his gun and sets about taking out the garbage. American critics were more than usually hostile, as the film was released in the wake of the latest school shooting. But to be fair to the distributors, you’re never far from a school shooting in the US.
