12A
Running Time
109 mins

Bullied at school and a whole bunch of trouble at home, 15-year-old teen misfit Barbara (newcomer Madison Wolfe) is raised by her older sister (Imogen Poots) and treated by a kindly therapist (Zoe Saldana). Meanwhile, her apparent delusions of being menaced by giant monsters are growing stronger.

Adapted by Joe Kelly from his graphic novel of the same title, this fantasy drama operates in very similar territory to A Monster Calls and Where the Wild Things Are, albeit with a girl power twist. Reviews have been positive, some critics comparing the film favourably with Dinsey’s more overblown A Wrinkle in Time.
