Four Kids and It

Director
Andy De Emmony
Certificate
PG
Running Time
108 mins

Divorced British dad David (Matthew Goode) and single American mom Alice (Paula Patton) drag their modishly blended family on a bonding holiday in Cornwall, where the nippers encounter a cantankerous, wish-granting troll known as a Psammead (voiced by Michael Caine). But dastardly clifftop dwelling toff Tristan (Russell Brand) schemes to bag the beast and add it to his collection of endangered animals. Boo hiss!

Adapted from the novel Four Children and It by Jacqueline Wilson, which was in turn based on E. Nesbit’s Five Children and It (which was itself adapted for the screen in 2004, with Eddie Izzard as the voice of the Psammead), this family film has received mixed reviews, the consensus being that easily-pleased children might find something to enjoy but it’s a bit of a patience tester for long-suffering accompanying adults.
