Metropolitan Opera Live: Porgy and Bess

Director
David Robertson
Certificate
12A
Running Time
225 mins

Bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue take the title roles in the Met’s first production of the Gershwins’ American classic in nearly 30 years. A co-production with English National Opera and Dutch National Opera, James Robinson’s stylish production was hailed thusly by The Guardian when it premiered in London back in 2018: “If you’re going to stage Gershwin’s opera, this is how.”

Should you be moved to warble along, this is the one with Summertime (as famously covered by Janis Joplin) and I Got Plenty o’ Nuttin.
