Peter Brook‘s 1979 adaptations of the memoirs of Greek-Armenian G. I. Gurdjieff certainly captures the beauty of the Afghan landscape as it charts the mystic’s seearch for enlightenment.
More of an acquired taste is Brook’s penchant for theatrical “forced improviastion” to tell the story. Dragan Maksimović plays Gurdjieff. Watch out for Alf Garnett as his dad (no, really – he’s played by Warren Mitchell) and Terence Stamp as Prince Lubovedsky. This Film and Philosophy screening will be followed by an audience discussion.
