Brit director Andrew Haigh follows the justly lauded Weekend and 45 Years by heading over the pond for a richly observational neorealist adventure yarn.
Last seen as the kidnapee in All the Money in the World, Charlie Plummer plays a troubled youth who moves to Portland with his equally troubled single father (Travis Fimmell – Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings). While dad deals with his ishoos, our young hero finds work at a nearby racetrack caring for the eponymous nag which is owned by Steve Buscemi and ridden by jockey Chloë Sevigny. Then he learns that poor old Pete is destined for the knacker’s yard, so boy and horse ride off together for an adventure in the great unknown.
