Film-maker Mathieu Amalric is still mourning the loss of his young wife Marion Cotillard, who disappeared 20 years earlier, as he embarks on a new project. His life is thrown into disarray when she pops up again unannounced, especially as he’s now in a new relationship with Charlotte Gainsbourg.
This romantic thriller from Arnaud Desplechin opened last year’s Cannes film Festival. Alas, despite the great cast, critics were not kind. The Guardian described it witheringly as “…a twirl of pure time-wasting silliness … a madly self-indulgent jeu d’esprit without substance”.
