Running Time
90 mins

Something of a companion piece to Hope Dickson Leach’s Somerset drama The Levelling, Brit director Clio Barnard‘s follow-up to The Selfish Giant takes us down on the farm – where things are, of course, grim – for a dose of muddy social realism.

Following the death of her father, Alice (Ruth Wilson) returns to the family’s tenant farm in North Yorkshire. Here she clashes with her brother Joe (Mark Stanley), who’s allowed the place to fall into wrack and ruin while caring for the old boy and resents her for abandoning them. Needless to say, there’s a family secret buried in the past and tensions mount when Alice announces that she plans to apply to become the sole tenant. Go here for our full review.
