Mononymous video essayist Kogonada, best known for his films about Kubrick and Ozu, makes his dramatic feature debut with this stylish, tender architectural romance, which owes much to the work of the latter.
John Cho (y’know – Harold from Harold and Kumar, Sulu from the rebooted Star Trek and, er, MILF guy from the American Pie movies) plays a Korean-American man who’s stuck in Columbus, Indiana, where his lecturer father is in a coma. Here he encounters Casey (Haley Lu Richardson), who’s caring for her recovering addict mother. Together, they explore the city’s modernist architecture.
