UWE Bristol graduates bring vision and voice to degree showcase
Around 50 graduating students from UWE Bristol will present their work at this year’s MA Showcase Degree Show, held at Spike Island from September 4 to 10.
The free exhibition opens with a special evening on September 4 and will run daily until the following Wednesday, giving the public the chance to explore ambitious and innovative projects from students on the MA Fine Art, MA Graphic Arts and MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking courses.
Marking the culmination of years of postgraduate study, the showcase offers work that draws on personal stories, cultural heritage and global challenges.

Among those exhibiting is Humberto Cunha do Espirito Santo, originally from Timor-Leste and now based in Bristol, whose project tackles the theme of social anxiety through design.
Drawing on his own experience of living with a stammer, Humberto reinterprets The King’s Speech in a video piece that captures the struggle of public speaking. “This project has given me a powerful way to express those feelings visually and emotionally,” he said.
Another exhibitor, Mahtab Garrousi, uses collage art to explore Persian culture, blending traditional motifs with contemporary techniques to reframe heritage in a modern context.
“I believe Persian culture is rich and beautiful, and collage allows me to layer histories, symbols and identities in new ways,” she explained.

Dr Will Grant, associate director of Postgraduate Taught Studies, praised the cohort. He said: “This year’s MA Showcase brings together the creativity, skill and hard work of our graduating students. This exhibition is a chance to step into their world and experience their ideas first-hand.”
