By Milan Perera  Tuesday Apr 15, 2025

City of Bristol College has secured its place among the top-performing further education (FE) colleges in the UK, following a strong performance in the government’s 2023–24 Further Education Performance Tables.

The college reported a 3.3 percentage point increase in overall achievement rates, positioning it 2.3 points above the national average and placing it within the top quartile of FE colleges nationwide.

Notable gains were recorded among 16–18-year-old students, whose achievement rates rose by 6.4 percentage points, a surge that helped make the college the highest-performing FE institution in the region.

Students with declared learning difficulties and those from Global Majority backgrounds also exceeded national benchmarks, suggesting progress in supporting underrepresented groups.

GCSE English and maths outcomes stood out, with achievement rates across all age groups above the national average. Adult learners in particular recorded higher-grade results, contributing to the college’s overall success.

Retention figures further underscored the quality of provision, with 91.8 per cent of students remaining on their courses, rising to 94.6 per cent among adult learners.

Julia Gray, principal and chief executive officer at City of Bristol College, said: “These results are a true testament to both the dedication of our students and the outstanding commitment of our colleagues.

“At City of Bristol College, we strive to continuously provide an inclusive and high-quality education that empowers learners to achieve their full potential.

“To be recognised as a leading further education college both regionally and nationally is a tremendous accomplishment and one that we take true pride in. We will take this pride and continue to build on this success for the benefit of our students and the wider community.”
