Bristol Olympian wins double gold at Artistic Swimming World Cup
Bristol Olympian Izzy Thorpe struck gold, not once, but twice, at the 2026 World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup held in Medellín.
The Olympic silver medallist won gold in the mixed duet technical event with her artistic swimming partner Ranjuo Tomblin on Saturday. The pair delivered a high-energy Latin-themed routine to Magalenha, earning 202.9517 points to take top spot at the season’s opening World Cup meet in Colombia.
They returned on Sunday for another scintillating display in the mixed duet free event, exploring the “conflict between light and darkness” and finishing clear of the silver medallists from the host nation.
In their maiden season together in 2025, the pair claimed bronze at the World Championships in Singapore.

Izzy missed her university graduation at Bristol Beacon in July 2025 as she was competing at the World Championship. An alumni of UWE Bristol, Izzy studied sports rehabilitation at the university while competing at international level.
Ranjuo, a Trendell sporting scholar at the University of Bath, finished the competition with three gold medals including one for the men’s solo event for technical.

Izzy and her childhood friend and long-time artistic swimming partner Kate Shortman ended Britain’s Olympic medal drought in the event by winning silver at the Paris 2024 games.
A former pupil of Clifton High School, Izzy first tried synchronised swimming at the age of eight alongside Kate at Filton Leisure Centre, the start of a journey that has now taken the Bristol artistic swimmer to the top of the game once again.
