Mark Alleyne appointed Gloucestershire head coach

By Martin Booth  Thursday Feb 1, 2024

Gloucestershire legend Mark Alleyne is returning to the club as head coach.

Alleyne is Shire’s most decorated player and the all-rounder features in a mural at the County Ground having won nine trophies during his time in Bristol.

The 55-year-old has also previously been head coach at Nevil Road between 2005 and 2007 after retiring from playing in 2004.

Alleyne will leave his current job as head of cricket at Marlborough College to join Gloucestershire in March on a three-year deal.

He has recently held coaching positions with Glamorgan and has coached the England men’s T20 side having also won ten England caps.

Alleyne said: “I’m feeling truly blessed to be given the opportunity to lead Gloucestershire, a county I have many happy memories of from during my playing days.

“I’m now at a time in my career where I’ve been exposed to coaching right at the top level for a number of years and have gained lots of experience, and I’m hoping the skills I’ve picked up along the way will allow me to have a positive impact on the team.”

Gloucestershire Cricket chief executive, Will Brown, added: “It is absolutely fantastic to welcome Mark back to the club as our new head coach.

“He has a long and glittering history of winning trophies here at Gloucestershire and is just as hungry for success now as a coach as he was during his playing days.”
