Gloucestershire hit record all-time total
It was raining runs in the County Championship for Gloucestershire as they put on a batting clinic on their way to posting the club’s highest-ever total in first-class cricket.
Mark Alleyne’s side declared in the first innings on a record 706 runs but were left frustrated by a resolute Leicestershire side who dug deep to rescue a draw.
Gloucestershire surpassed their previous highest innings total, which came back in 2004 against Middlesex, by just nine runs.

Astonishingly, Gloucestershire did not lose a wicket until the 77th over, with openers Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth both scoring sensational centuries as they notched up a partnership of 316 runs.
The pair’s imperious display, against a Leicestershire bowling attack which included England international Rehan Ahmed, was reinforced by their teammates as captain Graeme van Burren smashed 103 runs from only 93 balls, and Ollie Price and James Bracey also chipped in with half-centuries.
Overall, Gloucestershire hit a total of 75 boundaries, including 13 sixes, and looked set for a crucial victory in their battle to gain promotion from Division 2.
However, despite a valiant performance from a weakened and largely inexperienced bowling attack, who successfully enforced a follow-on, the Bristol-based outfit was unable to secure victory over the Foxes.
Regardless of the result, the remarkable batting display will leave fans with high expectations for the rest of the season and excited for the beginning of the club’s Vitality Blast campaign.
