Training and Courses: Bootcamp for teen girls’ green careers

A Bristol-based social enterprise, Catalyse Change CIC, has created an inspiring and empowering ‘Catalyst Bootcamp’ to help teenage girls gain skills for a changing world.  The new course is designed to help teenage girls consider a career in sustainability. Young women have so much potential to offer a world with serious environmental and social challenges. Yet most schools don’t provide the skills to help girls consider many career opportunities in sustainability.

The camp will connect young women with inspiring female mentors, working in a diverse range of sustainability sectors and roles. They will run practical sustainability projects to develop the girls’ skills and knowledge. They will also learn soft skills essential for employability, including; teamwork, problem solving and clearer communication.

‘Our focus is on teenage girls as we still lack gender equality,’ says organiser Traci Lewis. A recent report from Plan UK Teenage shows girls being failed and facing a multitude of pressures from sexual harassment, body image and cyber bullying.

‘1 in 3 are now suffering from depression or anxiety, the Catalyst Bootcamp will help increase their confidence and resilience!’

The 3-day residential course will be held in the attractive Clifton Hill House at Bristol University on 22nd-24th August for young women aged 14- 19 years interested in a career in sustainability but not sure how to go about it.

The key outcome will be to make informed to career choices in sustainability or green sectors. There is a big focus on building personal strengths, values and interests. By using new approaches to problem solving and communication the girls’ confidence and personal resilience skills will develop.
