Talking LGBT+ Bristol wants to hear from you

By Maisie Wallace  Monday Apr 23, 2018

As part of the ongoing Talking LGBT+ Bristol project in partnership with Tusko Films, Bristol24/7 is calling for contributors, footage or video clips that will help share the rich history of LGBT+ life in Bristol.

Over the last few months, we have been unearthing stories from Bristol’s LGBT+ community and beyond for our community interest film. We shared a sneak peek of the documentary in February during LGBT History Month, featuring some of our fabulous contributors. Since then we have been busy working on the final film, which will be screened during Bristol Pride Festival 2018.

But we need your help: we are asking volunteers to come forward with video footage that showcases Bristol’s LGBT+ culture and events over the last 100 years. Topics we are particularly interested in are:

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

• The ‘witch-hunt’ era (1950s)

• The party scene (1950-present)

• Nights out in Old Market, or referring openly to it as a ‘gay village’ (1950-present)

• Growing up LGBT+

• Footage relating to the Sexual Offences Act 1967

• Section 28 protest meeting held at the Arnolfini (1985) and other protests for LGBT+ rights

•Interactions with the police

If you have any video footage you could donate to the project, please get in touch with [email protected].

The final documentary will be made available for schools to use as an educational tool and the whole project will also be added as a resource to Bristol Archives. Find out more about our HLF supported Talking LGBT+ Bristol project and join the conversation using the hashtag #LGBT247
