My Bristol Favourites: Natalie Fey

By Martin Booth  Saturday May 1, 2021

As interpretation manager at the SS Great Britain, Natalie Fey’s unusual role includes the creation of immersive elements such as smells, sounds and dockyard dressings.

These create the authentic and historic Victorian interiors that help transport visitors to the SS Great Britain back in time.

Some of Natalie’s recent tasks have included installing the smell of vomit in the cabin of a sea-sick passenger and, for Halloween, creating the body of a passenger who died on board.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

These are Natalie’s top-five Bristol favourites:

St James’ Priory

St James’ Priory was founded in 1129 as a Benedictine Priory by Robert Earl of Gloucester, the illegitimate son of Henry I – photo: Martin Booth

“This 12th century priory is the oldest building in Bristol still in use today and is often overlooked due to its location, nestled behind the bus station. St James’ Priory has an incredible history and is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend some time exploring our city’s medieval heritage.”

Horfield Common

“Horfield Common is a daily favourite of mine for walking the dog. It has such a friendly community and the Cafe on the Common at the Ardagh makes for a wonderful rest stop for a cup of tea.”

Arnos Vale Cemetery

Originally built in 1839, the Anglican Chapel at Arnos Vale Cemetery is now an event space – photo: Martin Booth

“I love wandering through Arnos Vale, particularly when I want to leave the 21st century behind for a couple of hours. The Anglican Chapel is a particular favourite and I love attending their special movie screenings at Halloween!”

Morgan’s Hair & Beauty

Morgan’s Hair & Beauty on Gloucester Road has been my go-to hairdresser since I was a teenager. Such a wonderful atmosphere and the team there are so friendly and welcoming. I always leave feeling amazing.”

Las Iguanas

Now a national chain, Las Iguanas was founded in Bristol on St Nicholas Street – photo: Martin Booth

“I love the Las Iguanas menu, especially their chicken enchiladas. I have many happy memories of spending time with friends here, and the location and energy in Anchor Square is wonderful.”
