Yate man charged with murder following death in St Paul’s

By Ellie Pipe  Monday Dec 4, 2017

A Yate man has appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Dean Sawyer.

Police discovered a body, believed to be that of the 43-year-old, at a property on City Road on Sunday, November 26. A post-mortem revealed he was the victim of a serious assault.

Jamie Lomax, 41, of Chargrove, Yate, was arrested at the weekend. He has been charged with murder and appeared before magistrates on Monday.

Tributes have been left in memory of Sawyer, who founded the Positive Causes project in Old Market which works with the homeless and people overcoming addiction.

Police say his body lay undetected for up to two weeks.

Speaking last week, Detective Inspector Mike Buck, of the major crime investigation team, said: “His next of kin have been informed and specially trained officers are offering support to his family.

“House-to-house enquiries have been carried out in the local area, while specialist crime scene investigators have examined the property where his body was found.

“We’re aware this will have an impact on the wider community and would encourage anyone with concerns to contact their local neighbourhood team.”
