Volunteers needed to transform double decker bus into homeless shelter

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Jan 28, 2018

A double decker bus is being converted this week into overnight accommodation for up to 12 homeless rough sleepers.

The bus will be situated on Help Bristol’s Homeless‘ site on Malago Road in Bedminster which already has a collection of shipping containers that have been transformed into micro-flats for rough sleepers.

Volunteers are needed from Wednesday to help convert the vehicle, which was donated by First Bus last year.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

The bus is handed over in October 2017. “We have power and materials and if people want to help out just turn up and we’ll find something for them to do,” said volunteer Ian Robinson, 49, from Avonmouth, who works in network technologies.

Ian added: “I decided to take part as we can only fix things by actually taking part and by giving our time and effort.

“It’s all very well hitting Twitter and Facebook to generate awareness but if we don’t actually contribute then nothing will change.”
