Venue investigating after ‘crowd surge’ at club night

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday Jan 29, 2026

One person was hospitalised following what one witness described as a “crowd surge” outside Electric Bristol during a popular student club night.

Police were called to Nelson Street shortly before midnight on Wednesday following reports of disorder with barriers reportedly knocked over and people pushed.

Revellers were attending a ticketed event called Fishies 2000s Party, described as a “fin-tastic” underwater-themed party.

An attendee told Bristol24/7 that the incident drew a significant response from emergency services after security “were unable to control the situation”.

No serious injuries were confirmed but the South West Ambulance Trust transported one patient to Bristol Royal Infirmary with a “potential neck injury”.

The venue, formerly known as SWX, said it is investigating the incident and highlighted its “outstanding track record of public safety”.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called just after 11.50pm yesterday (Wednesday, January 28) to Nelson Street in Bristol following reports of a potential disorder outside a nightclub in which barriers had been knocked over and people pushed.

“Officers attended to support security staff and the crowd was dispersed.

“We are not aware of any serious injuries but understand our colleagues at the ambulance service transported one person to hospital for a possible neck injury.

“Our licensing team have already reached out to the venue and event organisers to understand what happened and to prevent matters of this nature happening in the future.”

A spokesperson for Electric Bristol said: “We are investigating an incident that occurred outside Electric Bristol on the evening of January 28.

“Electric Bristol hosts hundreds of concerts and club events every year and we pride ourselves on an outstanding track record of public safety and hosting safe events.”
