Two held over Barry Rubery murder released
Two men arrested in connection with the murder of pensioner Barry Rubery have been released by police without charge.
Rubery, 68, was found dead after he was brutally attacked outside his home near Bristol on April 28, 2010.
Two men, aged 30 and 19, were arrested on September 30 at addresses in Bristol and Peterborough.
They were due to answer bail yesterday but have been told they face no further action.
Police know Rubery had been out with friends on the evening he died and returned to Crossing Cottage at about 10.45pm. He was found with head injuries the morning after.
Investigations and numerous appeals for information were made to locate the killers in the years that followed, with no success.
Last year, police appealed for an anonymous caller to get in touch. Detectives received three anonymous calls, one shortly after Mr Rubery’s death, one after the inquest was opened in January 2012 and the third in June last year.
“The messages have been directly relevant to one of our lines of inquiry,” DCI Gareth Bevan said at the time.
