Two former pubs could be turned into shops
Two historic pubs in Bristol that have been empty for several years could both be turned into shops.
The Armoury Tavern in Easton and the Giant Goram in Lawrence Weston are likely to become the latest former watering holes to disappear off drinkers’ maps.
The Armoury Tavern on Stapleton Road was partially built in the middle of the 19th century but has not poured a pint since 2017.
is needed now More than ever
The pub on the corner of Armoury Square would be renovated with the majority of the changes made inside the building.
In planning documents, developers said their plan was a “fantastic opportunity to rejuvenate a long-vacant structure” and would “contribute to the vitality” of the neighbourhood.

Developers have also submitted plans to convert the Giant Goram, the last remaining pub in Lawrence Weston, which has been shut for several years.
In 2024, developers failed to get planning permission to build houses on the site on Barrowmead Drive. Now, a new application has been submitted to convert the pub into shops.
The Giant Goram opened in the 1950s and was at the heart of the community until it closed in 2019.
Previous plans have included for eight houses and a micropub on the site, with campaigners also trying for several years to buy the building and reopen the pub.
