Tributes paid to ‘kind, intelligent and funny’ man who died in docks
Warm tributes have been paid to the man who died in the Floating Harbour on Sunday.
The family of 23-year-old Joseph Omar, from Hampshire, said that he was “everything” to them and that his death was “unimaginably sad”.
Joseph’s body was found by police divers on Monday. Three people had to be pulled from the water by the fire service on Sunday evening but he could not be found.
Joseph was a business analyst who graduated with first class honours in maths from the University of Brighton, where he provided maths tutoring to fellow students.
He also worked as a steward on matchdays at Brighton & Hove Albion football club.
In a statement, his family said: “Joseph was one of the most kind, intelligent, funny, and popular people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.
“He touched the lives of many and lit up every room he entered. This tragedy has broken all of our hearts.”
Joseph’s partner, Georgie, added: “He was my present and my future, to think of anything else is unbearable.
“Hooley this is beyond words, so young and so perfect and taken from us so soon. We are all in bits and only the thought of seeing you again one day gets us through this.”
