Tributes to couple who died in Feeder Road crash

By Ellie Pipe  Wednesday May 3, 2017

A couple who were killed when their car crashed into the Feeder canal have been remembered with great love and affection by family members.

Tributes have been paid to John and Joan Tipler from the Barton Hill area, who died on Wednesday, April 26, after their vehicle plunged into the water at around 11pm.

The family expressed their sadness and regret over the tragedy and mentioned the heroism of the emergency services who tried in vain to rescue and resuscitate the couple.

Despite these efforts, John, 69, and Joan, 73, were both pronounced dead in the early hours of Thursday (April 27).

A statement from the family said: “John and Joan had lots of friends and were very active within the local Royal British Legion. They were also members of their respective bowls and skittles Clubs.

“We will all remember them both, with much love and great affection and would ask that the family be left to grieve privately at this incredibly difficult and emotional time.

“The police investigation into the accident is ongoing and any further information will be released through them.”

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “A Renault Clio was being driven along Feeder Road, Bristol, at approximately 11pm when it lost control and went into the River Avon.”

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Feeder Road area at the time and might be able to help with investigations into the incident.

Anyone who might have seen the vehicle prior to the crash, or witnessed the incident itself is asked to call police on 101 and quote log number 1111 of 26/4.
