Shock at ‘abysmal’ flytipping

By Martin Booth  Friday Jan 24, 2025

A huge pile of rubbish has been illegally dumped on a cycle path.

It is just the latest incident of flytipping on Lawrence Weston Road in Lawrence Weston close to where it goes underneath the M49.

Author Charlie Revelle-Smith shared photos of the rubbish on Instagram, calling it an “abysmal site”.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

“This sort of thing really lets LW down,” ashtontawton replied.

“I lived there for 2yrs but moved recently and this is one of the reasons why. It just doesn’t feel like a very pleasant environment to live in, which is so sad because it could be lovely.”

On Instagram, Revelle-Smith wrote: “This is incredibly dispiriting. I went for an otherwise lovely walk along the cycle path in Lawrence Weston and discovered this abysmal site.

“Fly-tipping is disgusting anywhere but the waterways along here are home to water voles – one of the rarest mammals in the country.”

ant_x_ince said: “L Dub is a great place, it’s a shame how that patch looks.”

smallpicturebigworld added: “What is so annoying is that they think they are getting away with paying to take it to the dump but instead it simply causes everyone’s council tax to increase because it costs to clean it up.

“More spent on cleaning up the mess means less for nice things like swimming pools, parks and libraries.”
