Neighbourhood’s final pub could be restored
A neighbourhood’s last remaining pub could be restored in a new planning application.
The Giant Goram in Lawrence Weston, which closed down in 2019, was the last remaining pub in the area.
In a planning application submitted in February, developers proposed to refurbish the existing building into a functioning public house, while also using the area on Barrowmead Drive to build seven new homes.

The pub, which has become the target of vandalism since its closure, would be preserved, but the adjoining skittle alley would be dismantled.
Developers would then build three new houses and four new flats, as well as converting the upper floors of the pub into two apartments.
The council previously refused planning permission to knock down the Giant Goram in 2024, when developers proposed the construction of eight new houses and a ‘micropub’ in its place.

Councillors and local residents believed the ‘micropub’ would not meet the needs of the community, and that total demolition would contradict the protected status given to the Giant Goram in 2018.
The site was then listed for sale in August 2025.
