School launches appeal following ‘terrible’ arson attack

By Benjamin Todd  Monday Nov 6, 2023

A south Bristol school is appealing for donations following an arson attack during half term in October.

The fire that took place on October 27 caused damage to play areas, benches and trees at the forest school facilities at St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Bishopsworth.

Headteacher Matt Stannard said: “We simply have been inundated with offers of support, both financially and in terms of a volunteer force.”

“After the terrible attack, parents, carers and local businesses have helped us to restore faith in the wonderful and caring south Bristol community.”

The cause of the fire was thought to be deliberate

So far, more than £2,600 has been raised through the school’s fundraising campaign called ‘Build Back Better’ on JustGiving.

The money raised will be spent on repairing the damaged play areas as well as a new more secure metal fence to prevent further attacks.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue told Bristol24/7 that the cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate.

You can donate to their campaign by visiting their fundraising page.
