Residents rally to save green space from development
Around 170 people turned out for a community walk across a threatened green space.
The walk, organised by a local campaign group, brought together residents young and old to show support for Brislington Meadows – and concern about its future.
More than 250 new homes could be built on the area in what developers promise will be “a green, landscape-led neighbourhood in keeping with the local landscape”.
Despite the planning process moving forward, campaigners are hoping to save the site which has been described as one of Bristol’s most “vital” green spaces.

Brislington Meadows is a designated Site of Nature Conservation Interest
Lucy Bell-Reeves, a member of Save Brislington Meadows, said Sunday’s turnout demonstrated just how much the expanse means to local people.
The campaigner said: “There was a lot of sharing of stories. Lots of the group have lived in Brislington for 30 years or more, so there is such a deep sense of connection to the meadows.”
Bell-Reeves added the community feels “let down by all political parties” after repeated assurances over the years that the meadows would not be built on.
“At this stage, we just hope that Bristol City Council looks closely at the latest round of plans from the developers and sees what we see – that these plans are ill thought through and damaging to the community,” she said.
