Protesters ask motorists to ‘hoot for Gaza’
Early on Wednesday morning, a few protesters congregated on the bridge above the M32.
They were there to raise attention to ongoing suffering in Gaza, where it is estimated that over 60,000 people have died since October 7 2023, the beginning of the current Israel-Hamas war.
Over the past few months, there has been particular concern about famine and starvation in Gaza, with UN agencies warning against the rise of malnutrition-related deaths.
is needed now More than ever
At around 7.30am on Wednesday, protesters on the M32 bridge unfurled a banner asking motorists to “Hoot4Gaza” and another which said “Gaza is being starved by Israel”.

Since the beginning of the conflict in 2023, protesters have regularly gathered at the M32 bridge
In a statement, one protester said: “We like so many people are horrified at more than 20 months of starvation and genocide in Gaza plus the complicity of our government in this brutal crime against humanity.
“We did this action to raise awareness… [there was] overwhelming public support to our action with the majority of vehicles hooting & flashing their lights in support.
“We were also exercising our right to protest against the government’s increasing authoritarian clampdown.
“Proud to be in Bristol the city that stands on the right side of history.”
