Popular play equipment removed from park
Only a squat metal stump now remains of what had been a popular place to play for more than a decade.
The bird’s nest tree on Brandon Hill had been showing considerable signs of wear and tear in recent years, and was removed by Bristol City Council after an inspection showed that it was not safe and was unable to be repaired.
One play equipment provider is currently selling a very similar bird’s nest tree for £11,647.

In a newsletter to residents within his ward, Hotwells & Harbourside councillor Patrick McCallister said: “Unfortunately, the Bird Next Tower (sic) climbing frame in Brandon Hill Playpark has become unsafe and was deemed beyond repair – the Council has had to remove it.
“The Parks Department will now take the opportunity to consider the play area as a whole, and consider what a suitable response might look like; for example replace the frame like-for-like or with something close to it, or do something different that might be more accessible for more children.
“I know that there is considerable interest in bringing improvements to the playpark and I will continue to monitor and engage with this closely to see what the team brings back as options.
“If you have ideas for how you would like to see the playpark improved, please let me know.”
