Portrait artist Harriet Riddell has been creating a giant sewn homage to Bristol using pedal power.
The artist, who specialises in creating sewn portraits, has been setting up in locations across the city using a bicycle to power her sewing machine.
Her portraits will be part of a giant sewn mural of the city and its people and will be presented at the Affordable Art Fair this weekend.
is needed now More than ever
Harriet says: “Anyone can take a picture, but there’s something really unique in the opportunity to actually sew a giant reflection of an entire city and the people that make it so special.

Each portrait takes about 20 minutes to complete and but it took more than 40 people to pedal so Harriet could sew the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the ss Great Britain.
The final work will be finished with applique and coloured in.

Sam Gare, director for Affordable Art Fair Bristol, said: “We have a proud history of supporting innovative new talent at the Affordable Art Fair, and so we’re delighted to announce artist Harriet Riddell as our Artist in Residence this year.”
Now in its fifteenth year, the three-day event will be packed with workshops, live art demonstrations and exclusive pieces from hundreds of emerging and established artists from around 50 galleries.
