New statue unveiled outside Temple Meads
A new statue of mythical giants Goram and Vincent is in place outside the front entrance to Bristol Temple Meads station.
The artwork was unveiled on Tuesday morning in front of a small crowd.
The reveal was led by Visit England Tourism shortlister Sheila Hannon and Visit West‘s chief executive Kathryn Davis.

This came during English Tourism week, between March 13 and 22.
The statue, funded by Great Western Railway, fits into the rail company’s larger ‘The Line to Legend Land’ campaign, which features an accompanying book of myths with an introduction and new story by famous children’s author Michael Morpurgo.
The book is full of updated stories of ancient myths including ‘The ghost of Gloucester Cathedral’, ‘The miracle dolphin of Mevagissey’ and, of course, ‘The giants of Avon Gorge’ which depicts Goram and Vincent.

It comes 100 years after GWR’s original Legend Land series, which also covered the tale of the giants.
The statue symbolises the mythical story of how the Avon Gorge was formed: supposedly dug by the giants to try to gain the attention of their love interest, the giant Avona.
