Theatremaker shortlisted for Visit England’s Tourism Superstar award
A theatremaker who specialises in turning Bristol’s true stories into theatre on the streets has been shortlisted for Visit England’s Tourism Superstar award.
Sheila Hannon is the co-founder of Show of Strength, a company that begun in Bedminster in 1986 and today is best known for its theatre walks with themes such as Cary Grant, Blackbeard and medieval Bristol.
Voting is now open until March 22 in the competition that sees Sheila up against nine other people including the director of astrophotography at an observatory in Northumberland, a chef at a restaurant in Lancashire and a tour guide from Norwich.
Visit England director, Andrew Stokes, said: “Tourism Superstar seeks out the standout people who make our tourism industry amazing, ensuring destinations and attractions provide unforgettable experiences.
“The competition also shines a spotlight on the variety and quality on offer at every level and in every part of England’s tourism industry.
“From holiday parks to castles, and from observatories to nature reserves, these individuals and teams ensure visitors keep coming back.
“Of course, they are all superstars already but I encourage you to watch the videos and cast your vote to make sure your favourite takes the crown.”
