Mayor’s salary increase rejected
Plans to increase allowances for councillors and the city mayor have been sent back to the drawing board.
Councillors were united in opposition to the proposals which would have seen George Ferguson’s salary increase from £66,395 to £75,000 and backbench councillors’ allowances go up from £11,530 to £12,500.
The Members’ Remuneration Independent Review Panel delivered a report to full council suggesting overall increases costing the council more than £100,000 a year.
But the councillors and the mayor spoke out in objection before voting unanimously to reject the report.
The report will now return to the panel who will make a new set of recommendations.
