March for Science and rally for Chechnya

People gathered for two very different causes on Saturday in Bristol.

The March for Science saw scientists unite as a nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good and the importance of evidence-based policies in the public interest.

Before the march began, speakers including wildlife presenter Chris Packham and author Simon Singh spoke on Millennium Square:

A few hours later on College Green, there was a rally in support of the LGBT community being persecuted in Chechnya, with has seen at least three men killed.

“Law enforcement and security agency officials… have rounded up dozens of men on suspicion of being gay, torturing and humiliating the victims,” report Human Rights Watch.

“Some of the men have forcibly disappeared. Others were returned to their families barely alive from beatings.”
