Little Waitrose opens on Gloucester Road
It was once widely cited as the longest line of independent shops in Europe.
Now, 1-3 Gloucester Road is occupied by a new Waitrose supermarket, officially opening its doors on Thursday at 8am.
The new shop, branded at as ‘Little Waitrose, The Arches’, replaces the former Future Leap, a sustainable co-working and events space that operated for six years before closing in January. Previously, Maplin occupied the same site.

The general consensus among its new neighbors was one of positivity, with the hope that it will draw more customers to surrounding indie businesses, including Harvest and One B Coffee House.
The supermarket is located almost directly opposite a Sainsbury’s and a few hundred metres from a Co-Op.

With plans in the pipeline for a 30,000 sq ft store at the huge new development called Brabazon in Filton, the new chain joins established Waitrose branches in Clifton and Westbury Park.
A Waitrose spokesperson previously told Bristol24/7: “We have wanted to open a shop in St Andrew’s for a long time and can’t wait to welcome local people to enjoy the great food and service we pride ourselves on.”
