Helen Sharman to attend We The Curious’ Festival of What If 2018
The first Briton in space is visiting Bristol this summer as part of a series of events themed around the possibility of changing the world.
In 1991, Helen Sharman became the first British astronaut when she blasted off on a Soyuz spacecraft, later spending eight days orbiting the Earth, living and working on the Mir space station.
She will be in Bristol as part of We The Curious’ Festival of What If, taking place from July 26 to 31, with organisers promising “an inspirational mix” of events, activities, art, music and comedy, all framed around the question ‘What if I could change the world?’
Tania Dorrity, head of programming for We The Curious, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be hosting Helen Sharman at We The Curious Festival of What If this summer.
“She’s an inspiration and a true pioneer who pushed the boundaries, helping to shape the British space industry into what it is today. We hope that her talk will inspire people to feel that they too can change the world.”
Other events taking part during the festival will include model making with Aardman animators to tie in with the Gromit Unleashed 2 sculptures inside We The Curious’ foyer and on Millennium Square, a brand new 3D planetarium show, and the chance to explore some colourful chemistry.
An Audience with Helen Sharman takes place at We The Curious on Saturday, July 28 at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £20 for adult, £18 concession. Includes entry to We The Curious for the afternoon from 1.30pm.
