Egg rolling returns to Bristol’s steepest street
The ancient annual tradition of egg rolling returned to south Bristol on Easter Day.
The competition has been taking place on Vale Street in Totterdown for the last 25 years, with only the pandemic causing a cancellation.
Vale Street is not just your average vertiginous thoroughfare: it is the steepest residential road in England.

Proceedings are always taken extremely seriously

Participants are cheered on by dozens of spectators
Participants in the egg rolling contest gathered at the top of Vale Street ahead of the official start time of midday on Sunday.
Hard boiled eggs are then rolled down the 22-degree slope and the egg that travels furthest is declared the winner.
