Early Christmas present for children as new playground opens
The sound of happy children filled the air as a new playground opened just in time for the Christmas holidays.
South Purdown Play Area in Lockleaze was funded through an £87,500 allocation from Bristol City Council’s Area Committee 5 (covering Lockleaze, Eastville, Hillfields and Frome Vale) and a £50,000 grant from the Enovert Community Trust.
The playground near Muller Road, with its entrance off Elmcroft Crescent, was officially opened by Heather Mack, deputy leader of Bristol City Council and a Green Party councillor for Lockleaze, accompanied by a group of children from the neighbourhood and their grown-ups.

“We’re thrilled to open the South Purdown Play Area, which will give local families a safe, exciting space to enjoy the outdoors,” said Mack.
“This project is a fantastic example of local communities working with – and being supported by – the council.
“I thank the local parents who have worked for years to secure this playground.
“Play is essential for children’s development and wellbeing, and this new facility will help create lasting memories for families in Lockleaze.”
